Erythritol is a natural zero-calorie substitute of sugar. It is a sugar alcohol and tastes almost exactly like sugar. Erythritol has 70% of the sweetness of sugar but does not raise blood sugar or insulin levels. Erythritol has 70% of the sweetness of sugar. Erythritol is a sugar alcohol that has been approved for use as a food additive in the United States and throughout much of the world. It was discovered in 1848 by Scottish chemist John Stenhouse.
